Construction Update - Week 16 - Fixing is Complete

I got a call from our site supervisor on Friday last week to let us know that the Fixing stage was complete.  It's nicer to get a phone call before the arrival of the invoice.

Anyway, we had a little poke around on the weekend.  It was pouring rain, so we did not stay long.

Updates include the installation of our bathroom, powder-room and kitchen bench-tops (except for the kitchen island bench for some reason)
  • All doors are now hung
  • All architraves are now fastened
  • The garage roof has been completed
  • Cornices installed above the kitchen cupboard bulkheads
According to our site supervisor, the painters will be starting next week.

Here are a couple of photos.  I didn't get a chance to take any from outside, due to the rain.

With the roof now on, I can get a better feel for the size of the garage, which we have extended to the property boundary.

Living room area (not a lot of change this week)

Kitchen area (again, not a lot of change, other than the finishing of the bench-tops and cornices around the cupboard bulkheads)

Woo-hoo!  Our bath has arrived

  1. Hi James, your house is moving on really fast- cannot believe it, was you expecting this quick process? We estimated that if our site starts next week ( as planned) the contract gives them until end of April almost 36 weeks!! We are building near you and are probably in the same building zone, which cost an extra 10 k- bit pricey! We are all surprised how quickly it seems to be completed! It's looking super, and I can only bee envious of how yourself and your family are feeling, very exciting! Adam

  2. Hi Adam, great to hear from you again - sorry for the delay in responding. Like yours, our contract was for something like 30+ weeks - it is just the way the Porter Davis set it up. I think one factor in the speed of progress on our build has been the weather. We started in February and were able to get to lock-up before the seriously bad weather started and I think that has helped. Yeah, don't get me started on the "you-don't-live-in-an-outer-suburb, so-we-are-just-going-to-rip-you-an-extra-$10K-for-nothing" Porter Davis tax. None of the other volume builders do it and I personally liken it to extortion. It really grated at the time.
